Lyceum love

Last Monday was the final day of Esmé’s weekly Art & Literature class at Christianne’s Lyceum.

How we love that place!  I’ve waxed poetic about the Lyceum before, both here and here.

Run by the veritable Goddess of child-led learning, Dr. Christianne Hayward, Esmé is always excited to get into the car on Monday mornings and cross the city to pick up where she left off the week before.

They spent weeks building fairy bowers, collecting tiny treasures from home to share with the group, and reading stories about fairies and all the delightful mischief they get up to.

They also spent a few weeks exploring the story of The Velveteen Rabbit, with the ultimate craft of each building their own Velveteen Rabbit, which they took home on the last day.  Esmé has never been one for lovies (other than a stint with a knitted, ear-less polka-dotted cat called Mia) and could care less about them, in general, but this one that she made has captured her heart.  She calls him Bungo, and sometimes sets him beside her and pulls a blanket over them both while she listens to her Barefoot Books stories.

We are so thankful for the Lyceum’s generous scholarship, which has allowed Esmé to be a part of such a special group of bright little kids.  If any of you are looking for a magical place to contribute to, the Lyceum is well-deserving for all the work they do to promote literature and art in the community, and more importantly, to spark a passion for all things creative in the kids who participate in their enchanting programs, and who will go on to make the world a more sparkly and luminescent place for us all to enjoy.
